Good short stories book。 But has some bad issues about grandparent-grandchild respect。 Some attention is needed beforehand。

This was my first experience of reading a Dahl book as it wasn't a series I read as a kid。 My first experience of Dahl work was a great one and I couldn't find any faults in the book。 Obviously some of the humour isn't mine anymore as an adult but it was amusing reading this whilst having observed my nephew growing up for the last 6 years。 From this I think that this is still a relatable book for adults who didn't read Dahl books as a child and am looking forward to reading more of his work。 This was my first experience of reading a Dahl book as it wasn't a series I read as a kid。 My first experience of Dahl work was a great one and I couldn't find any faults in the book。 Obviously some of the humour isn't mine anymore as an adult but it was amusing reading this whilst having observed my nephew growing up for the last 6 years。 From this I think that this is still a relatable book for adults who didn't read Dahl books as a child and am looking forward to reading more of his work。 。。。more

this was good, I looked forward to it for the nostalgia aspects but I had to mark it down due to the non-vegan aspects, where the animals are fed the medicine so that the farmer can sell more meat and make more money, it was an enjoyable read though and the grandma is entertaining to read about and it reminds me of when I was small and would make "potions" out of random shite I had found in the house this was good, I looked forward to it for the nostalgia aspects but I had to mark it down due to the non-vegan aspects, where the animals are fed the medicine so that the farmer can sell more meat and make more money, it was an enjoyable read though and the grandma is entertaining to read about and it reminds me of when I was small and would make "potions" out of random shite I had found in the house 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 It was nice and really cute。 Great for kids I would think。 The only thing that I found rude, besides everything that came out of Grandma's mouth, was Mr。 Kranky's reaction when she started shrinking into nothing。 He showed no concern。 And I know that she was a horribly mean person but he at least could have comforted his wife who was having a major freak out because of it。But I really enjoyed this book。 It was a quick and fantastical read。 Very fun。 It was nice and really cute。 Great for kids I would think。 The only thing that I found rude, besides everything that came out of Grandma's mouth, was Mr。 Kranky's reaction when she started shrinking into nothing。 He showed no concern。 And I know that she was a horribly mean person but he at least could have comforted his wife who was having a major freak out because of it。But I really enjoyed this book。 It was a quick and fantastical read。 Very fun。 。。。more

This was a fun little short story to read by Dahl about a little farm boy named George who has a cranky old grandmother who scares him with silly, witchy threats。 He has to give her medicine at certain times a day, so he plots to replace the medicine with a cauldron of his own concoction。 Hilarious results ensue。When reviewing kids' books, I'd rather ask my little brother how well it went with him than judge it from an adult's eyes。 I grew up reading Roald Dahl - from Matilda in the library as a This was a fun little short story to read by Dahl about a little farm boy named George who has a cranky old grandmother who scares him with silly, witchy threats。 He has to give her medicine at certain times a day, so he plots to replace the medicine with a cauldron of his own concoction。 Hilarious results ensue。When reviewing kids' books, I'd rather ask my little brother how well it went with him than judge it from an adult's eyes。 I grew up reading Roald Dahl - from Matilda in the library as a kid and a set of his works given to me when I was 11 or 12 in Nepal。 I found Dahl's writing kinda gruesome but hilarious, fitted with his witty and sometimes twisted sense of humor and the theme of kids vs grown-ups。 This book fits that theme with George planning to prank his grandma。 I was gripped to find out what would happen next, and the magical part of it (I liked the time George's medicine turned a bright brilliant blue and the last line)。 The silliness of the adults and the relationship between the grown-ups was hilarious; I could understand it in a deeper way as an adult。 Also, before I knew Dahl, I already knew Quentin Blake, his illustrator, because I had a how-to-draw book of his that still informs my drawings today。 In this book, Dahl and Blake work hand-in-hand excellently together again。 The seemingly hurried pen-and-ink drawings with silly shapes and facial expressions on the humans and animals add the visual component to Dahl's ridiculously fun writing。 。。。more

This book is everything but marvellous。 Jk, don't get it twisted 'cause reading this book is a sheer delight that you don't want to miss out on💙The story is about George, a sweet little 8 year old and his mean cranky grandmother who not only pretends to adore him in front of his parents but also shows her true colors when they are away。 One day after George's father left for work, George's mother decides to go shopping。 She leaves George with his grandmother and reminds him to administer medicin This book is everything but marvellous。 Jk, don't get it twisted 'cause reading this book is a sheer delight that you don't want to miss out on💙The story is about George, a sweet little 8 year old and his mean cranky grandmother who not only pretends to adore him in front of his parents but also shows her true colors when they are away。 One day after George's father left for work, George's mother decides to go shopping。 She leaves George with his grandmother and reminds him to administer medicine to her at 11'o clock💙Once George is left alone with his grandmother, she says a lot of spiteful things and frightens the life out of him。 That clearly is the last straw and poor George can't take her ill treatment anymore。 He's been putting up with her cruelty for so long, but for once he decides he has had enough。 He devises a plan to make his own medicine and hopes to turn his wicked grandmother into a BETTER person considering how her regular medicine had failed to bring a positive change in her💙Excitement gets the better of him, he throws pretty much everything he gets his hands on (toothpaste, deodorant, paint, animal pills, you name it and in it goes) into a pan and boils them together。 Ta-da, George's Marvellous Medicine is ready to experiment。 But hold on, can George trick his grandmother into taking his medicine? What do think will become of her?💙Something is a bit off about the whole idea? Isn't it? In George's defense he was left unsupervised and for a fact, Roald Dahl's imagination knows no bounds。 I enjoyed reading this book so much so but I might advise against recommending this to children。 You can try to make them understand the seriousness and aftermath of making their own medicine, but hey, if you ask me, you don't want to put ideas into their heads in the first place plus I have no clue as to how many children have already had access to this book。 So on a serious note, if you ever encounter children with medicine in their hands, for the love of God, make a run for it 😂 。。。more

Not a particularly heartwarming Ronald Dahl book。 George is burdened to have a nasty, rotten grandmother and decides to do something about。 Teach her a lesson? Hurt her? We’re not sure what will happen and neither is George。 The story is interesting and my children liked listening, but it isn’t one of the more fun Dahl books。

I remember listening to the audio book on the way back from a sleepover with Saskia, I was so interested in the story and was sad that we didn't get to finish it。 Lucky for me Saskia remembered how interested I was and she got me the book for my birthday, still one of my favourite presents ever。 I remember listening to the audio book on the way back from a sleepover with Saskia, I was so interested in the story and was sad that we didn't get to finish it。 Lucky for me Saskia remembered how interested I was and she got me the book for my birthday, still one of my favourite presents ever。 。。。more

Writing this so I remember when I re-read to my second kiddo。 My four-year-old daughter wants to mix anything and everything now。 I’m needing to make sure everything dangerous is extra stashed away。Maybe hold off on this one until they are 8 ish。

I loved this having never read it before super easy to read and George really does create a marvellous medicine。 Not sure grandma would agree given her current state but never mind!
